Converting Gauntlet to JAMMA

This document describes how to make an adaptor to play a Gauntlet or Gauntlet II PCB in a standard 2-player JAMMA cabinet. This procedure requires no board modifications. This document was inspired by Chad Gray's Converting Defender to Gauntlet document, which I hope to use to JAMMAtize my Robotron board set Any Day Now.

DISCLAIMER: Use the information in this document AT YOUR OWN RISK. I've tried to keep this document as error-free as possible - nevertheless, I offer no guarantees of any kind, and I take no responsibility for any injury or equipment damage that result from following these directions.

Here are some other documents that may be useful to refer to while making this adaptor. I recommend that you read these documents thoroughly as well as my documents below before starting this project.

OK, let's get started!
  1. Getting your parts and tools together

  2. Describes all the parts and tools you'll need for converting Gauntlet to JAMMA
  3. Wiring up Power and Video

  4. Covers creating the connectors for power and video. This should be enough to get the game up and running, so you can verify that your PCB works.
  5. Wiring up Controls and Coin Switches

  6. Covers creating the connectors for the player controls, and for adding credits to the game. At this point, the game is fully playable.
  7. Sound

  8. Gauntlet has unamplified stereo sound. Most JAMMA cabinets require amplified mono sound. This page describes some of the options available, and the option I chose for my cabinet.
That's it! You are done! Don't shoot the food!
